Office Cabling & Cat6: What to Clarify First

Fiber.com.hk accepts LAN cabling enquiries for Hong Kong offices, warehouses and shops. Our own team reviews outlet positions, cable routes and work arrangements. Cat6 can be a starting point for assessing general office needs; final specifications depend on bandwidth, equipment and site requirements.

Suitable Scenarios Office relocation, renovation, additional LAN outlets and connections for warehouse or shop equipment

Office Cabling & Cat6 Installation Scenarios

  • Plan new LAN outlets during an office move or renovation
  • Add outlets to an operating office, connect warehouse equipment or cable a shop
  • Tidy existing cables and add labels to support future maintenance

What should I prepare for office cabling or Cat6 installation?

Provide what you know. Unknown items can be confirmed on site

  • Approximate LAN outlet quantities and equipment positions
  • Cat6 or Cat6A requirements; leave the choice for assessment if you are unsure
  • Location, building type and whether the site is vacant or operating
  • Building management work permits, insurance documents and work-hour requirements

What We Assess Before Installation

Cat6 can be a starting point for assessing general office needs, with the choice confirmed against bandwidth, routes and site requirements. We do not select specifications without assessing your needs.

Check restrictions involving ceilings, conduits, furniture and fire compartments before routing cables. Confirm document requirements for office towers or large shopping malls with building management first.

For an operating site, confirm affected areas, the work window and testing arrangements to reduce disruption to staff and customers

Agree Before Quotation · Clear Acceptance Criteria

Agree on Cable Acceptance Before Quotation

A network signal does not mean the required cabling performance tests are complete. Agree on cable specifications, test models and handover records so each link can be assessed consistently.

Specifications & Test Models
Confirm the cable category and intended applications, then agree on the appropriate test model, such as a permanent link or channel.
Match Cables to Test Results
Identifiers at both ends, patch panels and outlet positions should match the agreed test records for each link.
Remedial Work & Retesting
If a link does not meet the agreed requirements, record corrective work and retest results before confirming handover.

These are acceptance items for discussion. Not every quotation automatically includes all testing or documentation; the actual scope must be agreed first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What information is needed for an office cabling quotation in Hong Kong?

Start with the location, approximate LAN outlet quantities, whether the site is vacant or operating, and your preferred completion date. If outlet numbers are unknown, describe computer, phone, printer and other equipment positions and approximate quantities. Include any Cat6 / Cat6A requirements, existing routes and building management documents. Unknown items can be confirmed during a site visit.

Can cabling and Wi-Fi be planned together during an office move?

Yes. You can enquire about LAN and Wi-Fi together. Gather computer, phone, printer and AP positions, renovation progress and relocation dates. Cabling, equipment and work arrangements can then be assessed against the site.

Can existing LAN cables and patch panels be reused?

Start with cable markings, outlet quantities, existing patch panel and equipment details, and the problem you want to improve. Reuse depends on routes, cable condition, usage and testing. You do not need to assume that everything must be replaced before an assessment.

How should I choose between Cat6 and Cat6A?

Start with the required speed, equipment, cable lengths and installation conditions. A new copper system designed for 10GBASE-T over a 100-metre channel generally uses Cat6A as the design direction. Reusing existing Cat6 requires assessment of distance, crosstalk and test results; a cable category name alone is not a guarantee.

Can work take place while staff are in the office?

Tell us if the site needs to remain operational. We first review furniture, staff arrangements and acceptable work times, then confirm a feasible approach and quotation.
